Florida continues to be one of the most popular destinations for UK expats relocating to the United States. With its tropical climate, stunning coastlines, and dynamic cities such as Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, the Sunshine State offers an enviable blend of professional opportunity and relaxed coastal living.
Florida boasts a growing and diverse economy, with opportunities across a wide range of sectors. Tourism, hospitality, healthcare, and education remain key industries, while Miami has become a notable centre for international business, finance, and tech startups. Orlando is home to major employers in entertainment and aerospace, and Tampa offers strong prospects in healthcare, logistics, and defence. Florida’s no state income tax policy is an added benefit for many professionals relocating here.
Property prices in Florida can vary widely by region, with waterfront homes typically commanding a premium. However, there are still many areas offering excellent value compared to other popular US states.
Whether you’re looking for a high-rise apartment in Miami, a family villa near Orlando’s theme parks, or a beachfront property along the Gulf Coast, Florida offers a wealth of residential options. It’s advisable to work with a local real estate agent familiar with the nuances of each neighbourhood. Once you’ve found the right home, you can begin planning your move with Williams & Yates.
The cost of living in Florida is generally close to the national average, though this can vary depending on location. Cities like Miami and Fort Lauderdale tend to be more expensive, while areas inland or in the Panhandle are often more affordable. Florida’s absence of state income tax makes it a financially attractive option for individuals and families alike.
Groceries, transportation, and utilities are typically in line with or slightly below national averages, with plenty of choice for every budget and lifestyle.
Florida offers a wide range of educational options, from well-rated public and private schools to respected higher education institutions such as the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Miami. Many international schools and bilingual programmes are available, especially in larger cities.
Florida is well-connected by a strong network of highways and multiple international airports, including Miami, Orlando, and Tampa International. While larger cities offer public transport options like buses and light rail, many residents find owning a car the most convenient way to get around, particularly for travel outside city centres.
